Meditations on Paper

Information on my environmentally sound hand made paper, sumi-e paintings, paper vessels, books and journals, and paper jewelry; embellished with hand ground sumi inks.

I consider my work environmentally sound because I do my paintings on my own hand made papers which are environmentally sound (see next paragraph).  I create my paper jewelry with my own environmentally sound hand made papers and I use scraps of archival mat board, left over from matting and framing my paintings, to mount my papers to for my paper jewelry, thus recycling those scraps.  I make my paper vessels from my environmentally sound hand pulled paper or from the same pulps I use to make my paper.  And... most of my journals and books are covered with my recycled blue jeans paper and the others are covered with my other environmentally sound hand made paper.

I consider my paper ecologically sound because I use invasive plant species like Japanese knotweed... and abundant self sustaining plant species like cattails... and I recycle used cotton clothing (including denim jeans and t-shirts) to make my unusual hand crafted hand made papers.

This site includes pictures of my artwork, galleries where it can be found, and shows where you can meet me and purchase my artwork directly from the artist.  It also has information on my studio, which is open by appointment and for special open studio events... as well as exhibits where you can see limited selections of my work... and any demonstrations or workshops I may be doing.  I always try to provide enough information for you to find your way to these various events; but you may want to contact other venues (shops & galleries) directly for more information (their hours open, etc.).

Thank you for your interest in my work.  Feel free to e-mail questions you may have.
