Colorful Cotton Paper Vessels
by Ray Bliss Rich, artisan

This page is devoted to pictures of several of my paper bowls and vases.
For a description of the process I use to make these go to my hand crafted paper vessels home page

Directly above is an 8" diameter splayed bowl of 2/3 sage cotton and 1/3 white manila hemp.
Directly below is a splayed sage cotton bowl with white manila hemp marbling.

I call this shape splayed for the way it flairs out from the bottom.

You can notice that many of my bowls and vases have wisps of, or are marbled with, contrasting pulp I create from various other fibers (i.e.: lighter or darker colored cotton, knotweed, manila hemp, cattails).

In the two pictures shown directly above; on the left you see several colorful 10" diameter bowls nested in a 14" diameter shallow bowl and on the right you see red, white, and blue 5" diameter bowls nested in one another.

In the two pictures shown directly above; you see two views of an 8" diameter splayed bowl hand formed from purple colored cotton pulp made from fabric scraps given me by a quilter friend.

Below is a 5" diameter manila hemp bowl with a sumi-e style fish painted inside.

Here are some colorful cotton 5" diameter bowls.

More pictures will be added to this page periodically.

My bowls and vases are available for purchase at the League of NH Craftsmen shops in Concord and Littleton.
They are also available directly from my studio which is open by appointment.
