The prints offered on this page are my original gyotaku impressions taken directly from the body of an actual fish. They are for those who enjoy the graphic nature of the gyotaku style and have a strong desire for an original work of art. Availability may be seasonal and there may be a wait list for certain species.  I actually encourage you to purchase one of my giclée reproductions as a matter of conservation; since there is a limit to how many originals I can obtain from a fish, and they are priced accordingly.

I am happy to exchange e-mails discussing options for obtaining one of my original gyotaku. Due to the increased difficulty in printing larger fish; the largest original gyotaku are offered in two grades: prime and select. Select grade images are excellent but not as excellent as prime grade.  The difficulty in printing also varies with species which is reflected in the price of originals.  This is not an issue with my giclée reproductions which are priced according to sheet size.

According to feng shui; black fish activate protective chi (energy),
making these original prints an excellent addition to your home.

The papers used vary from print to print. Each is hand signed with black pigment ink and chopped with red pigment.

Both matted and fully framed prints are done with acid free archival materials.

Frame sizes vary with each fish, depending on the size of the actual fish the print is taken from. Because each is an original work, no two will be identical; therefore, I caution you that any pictures on my web site are merely representational of how each species of fish prints. Certain fish are much more difficult to print and that is reflected in the price of original prints. Larger fish require special handling and use larger sheets of paper to both print and wet mount. See my gyotaku instructions link below for a description of the process.

All original gyotaku are available just matted or matted & framed. I provide a variety of frames for my original gyotaku that are not offered for the reproduction prints. I am happy to exchange e-mails concerning the best matting and framing option for you. Prices for each fish, whether just matted or matted & framed; and depending on the excellence of the image, must be discussed prior to purchase.
