Ray Bliss Rich...   collages and pulp paintings

Rising Moon and Orchid

Shown left is a collaged wall piece embellished with sumi brushwork; done on a 2" raised panel.  That is; the surface panel is raised from the wall by mitered framework behind the panel that is not visible head on.  These pieces are lacquered to protect the papers and can be hung as they are with no framing or they can be framed similar to an oil painting.

Denim and Bambo

Red Scape

To the right is an example of a wet pressed pulp painting which gives a more blended appearance than the collaged pieces.  These are single sheets of paper made by blending different colors of wet pulp then pressing to a board to dry.  These pieces could be mounted to a raised panel and lacquered or matted and framed behind glass depending on the desired result.  Mounting and lacquering tends to intensify colors whereas framing behind glass leaves the colors more muted as seen here.

approx. 4x6" sheet size

Blue Sky

Left is an example of a dry pressed pulp painting which gives a more blended appearance than the collaged pieces but not as flat an appearance as a wet pressed piece.  A single sheet of paper made by blending different colors of wet pulp.  This piece would be most effective matted and framed behind glass.
